Wind and Weather: Why We Stop Inflatables Above 24mph

The British weather is the one thing we can't control. Here's how wind and rain affect inflatables, and how we plan for them.

Wind and Weather: Why We Stop Inflatables Above 24mph

Wind is the biggest weather risk for any inflatable. That's why HSE guidance says inflatables must not be used in winds above 24mph – Force 5 on the Beaufort scale – and some inflatables have a lower limit set by the manufacturer.

What we do

  • Watch the forecast with you in the days before your event, and talk through options if strong winds are likely.
  • Measure the wind on site during set-up and keep an eye on it through the day.
  • Anchor every inflatable fully, using all its anchor points.
  • Stop play and deflate safely if the limit is reached. Your supervisor or our operator will clear the inflatable first.

What about rain?

Light rain doesn't usually stop play, but wet surfaces are slippery, so supervisors may pause it. Some of our castles have rain covers, and heavy rain means stopping for safety.

Plan B ideas

  • Check whether your venue has a sports hall or marquee with enough height.
  • Pick attractions that work indoors – many inflatable games and the rodeo bull do.
  • Agree timings so we can move things if needed.
